Elegant Western-Inspired Ojai Wedding at Meditation Mount | Sunset Photos with Their Horse

A romantic Ojai wedding at Meditation Mount, photographed by an Ojai wedding photographer and featuring portraits throughout downtown Ojai and the river.

Today we wanted to share this beautifully special Ojai wedding that truly felt like a scene out of a romantic western film. As an Ojai wedding photographer, days like this are exactly why we love documenting weddings and elopements here in the valley. As folks who live and thrive in Ojai, we’re always hoping for a day that captures the very best parts of this valley — the landscapes, the lifestyle, and the kind of love stories that feel deeply rooted here. This one honestly felt like that dream coming to life.

We’ve been waiting for a local wedding like this that really reflects the authentic spirit of Ojai, and the sweetest couple to celebrate throughout the day with. It was honestly hard to believe how perfectly everything came together, because almost every location they chose for each part of their wedding day would have been exactly what we would recommend to couples planning an Ojai wedding or intimate elopement here in the valley. If someone asked us to imagine the perfect Ojai wedding day, this would be pretty close to it.

These two sweethearts were both raised here in Ojai and found love in each other through simple moments around town — walks along the river with their horse Jack, date nights at the local favorite Boccali’s, and the occasional competitive pool match together at The Hub. It’s the kind of story that feels so naturally tied to this place. One of the things we love most as an Ojai wedding and elopement photographer is getting to witness love stories that are so deeply connected to this valley.

We started the day at the Ojai Valley Inn, where the bride was getting ready with Tatiana taking care of hair and makeup. Tatiana is such a wonderfully talented soul, and definitely someone to check out if you’re looking for a hair and makeup artist for your wedding in Ojai, Ventura, Santa Barbara, or anywhere nearby. Naturally, the Ojai Valley Inn made for such a dreamy setting for the bride’s getting-ready moments. There’s something about the peaceful gardens and soft light there that makes the morning of a wedding feel especially calm and magical.

It is also absolutely necessary to mention the bride’s stunning dress and veil, masterfully made by Claire Pettibone. The details in this gown were unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Truly a piece of art in and of itself, and the perfect fit for a romantic Ojai wedding day. The way the veil moved in the wind later during the ceremony felt almost cinematic. We would absolutely love to see more dresses like this one from Claire Pettibone. If you mention this post and are planning to wear one of her pieces for your own wedding in Ojai, we’ll have a little surprise gift waiting for you.

The groom was getting ready at an equally iconic Ojai location, Caravan Outpost. If you’ve ever heard of Caravan Outpost, you probably already know that it’s such a special local gem. Your Airstream suite awaits here in this lush little palm-filled oasis right on the edge of downtown Ojai. It’s honestly one of the most fun and unique places for a wedding party to stay, especially for couples planning an intimate Ojai wedding weekend or elopement celebration.

Each Airstream has full living quarters — a bedroom, kitchenette, dining area, and cozy living space — and the property also has a large shared courtyard where everyone can gather around the fire pit, share drinks, and spend time together. It’s one of those places that just naturally brings people together, and we’ve even seen couples host entire small weddings here.

There were also some of the coolest and sweetest details woven into the groom’s outfit and belongings for the day. He was hustling around all morning organizing details, decorating their getaway car with florals, adding the classic “Just Married” sign on the back, and tying a handful of Coors Banquet cans to the trunk. It felt so unashamedly them and perfectly matched the relaxed, down-to-earth energy that makes Ojai weddings feel so special.

One of our favorite details was the leather belt he handmade for the wedding day, stamped with their newly shared last name. It’s such a meaningful little piece, and now every time he pulls that strap through the ring he’ll remember this day. His outfit also included a perfect cowboy hat, a custom vintage western suit, and a unique bolo tie, all tying together this wonderful western-inspired style that felt right at home in the Ojai valley.

Once everyone was dressed and ready, we all made our way up the mountain to Meditation Mount where the ceremony was to be held. We’ve photographed a few weddings and elopements at Meditation Mount, and honestly always wish we had more opportunities there. It’s one of the most peaceful and breathtaking Ojai wedding venues, overlooking the entire valley with the mountains stretching out in the distance.

We actually find ourselves going up there from time to time just to sit and take in the view or enjoy a quiet moment. It really is a special place, and one of the most beautiful settings for a wedding ceremony in Ojai. If you’re planning a wedding at Meditation Mount, we’re always happy to share some of our favorite aspects of the venue along with a few helpful insights about hosting a ceremony there.

Their ceremony took place in the garden overlook surrounded by beautiful greenery, with the majestic Ojai mountains stretching out behind them. Soft white clouds drifted across the sky while the bride’s veil caught the wind and flowed behind her. There were happy tears, quiet laughter, and so much love shared between everyone present. It truly felt like the perfect afternoon for a wedding in Ojai.

You could almost feel the energy on the mountain that day. Meditation Mount really has a way of creating an atmosphere that feels peaceful and deeply meaningful, which is part of why it’s become such a beloved spot for intimate weddings and elopements in Ojai.

After the ceremony concluded, the bride and groom shared hugs and celebrations with their family and friends on the mountain before we took some family photos with one of the most beautiful backdrops we’ve ever been lucky enough to have on a wedding day. The natural beauty of Ojai really speaks for itself in moments like these.

They even signed their marriage license on the back of their getaway car in true down-home fashion before being sent off down the hill with their family cheering and shouting congratulations behind them.

I met back up with them at the bottom of the hill and we continued into downtown Ojai to visit some of their favorite places around town for portraits together. Our first stop was along Ojai Avenue across from Libbey Park to capture the classic Ojai wedding photo with the Bell Tower in the background. If you grew up here, you’ve probably seen that bell tower in the backdrop of so many memories, and it always feels like a perfect little piece of town to include in wedding photos.

After wandering the street for a bit we made our way down toward the river to meet up with their horse Jack. From the moment we started planning this wedding day, we were so excited to meet him. Jack has clearly played such an important role in their lives together, and including him in their wedding photos felt incredibly special.

Their friends kindly brought him down to meet us and we were able to capture some truly beautiful moments as the sun began to set. Considering the wedding day was already centered around family, it felt like such a meaningful addition to include their horse and even a few photos with their friends as well. The location by the river might just be one of the most stunning spots in Ojai for sunset, and it made the perfect place for them to slow down and soak in the day together.

Watching them stand there with Jack, the mountains behind them and the evening light settling into the valley, felt like the most peaceful and fitting way to end their wedding day. And yes… Jack absolutely managed to pull off the Claire Pettibone veil look.

We hope you enjoy seeing some of our favorite memories from their day below.
