We recently had the absolute pleasure of capturing some incredibly special memories for a wonderful family who made the trek down to the coast from Simi Valley. While they love their valley home, they have the fondest memories tied to the Ventura coast, so heading back to the salt air for their first official session as a family of three was an absolute no-brainer!
We were all coming together to celebrate their brand-new baby girl, and let me tell you, she was just as perfect as can be. Total little angel!
Now, I know what some of you might be thinking—a newborn session at the beach?! Not everyone is brave enough to pack up a tiny baby and head to the shoreline, but when they do, the results are nothing short of magical. There is something so gentle and beautiful about capturing those first few weeks of life out in the open air. We really want to encourage more families to be open to the possibilities of taking their newborns out into the world for their very first family session! It really is such a beautiful, relaxed experience for everyone. (But hey, if you are more of a homebody, don’t worry—we still absolutely love a cozy in-home newborn session too!)
Of course, it definitely helps when you are shooting at one of our absolute favorite hidden gems in town. It’s one of those local spots that not everybody knows about, meaning it is almost always clean and completely uncrowded around sunset. It serves up the most perfect panoramic backdrop of the mountains meeting the ocean, giving us a unique selection of backgrounds to play around with throughout the evening. As if a perfect baby girl and a dreamy sunset weren’t enough, this family brought along two incredibly important VIPs (Very Important Pups): their English Bulldogs, Stanley and Sugar! Ah! They completely stole the show, adorned perfectly in the most adorable flower collar and a very dapper bow tie. Bulldogs on the beach in formalwear? Yes, please! We are always a million percent on board for including your fur babies in your sessions.
We spent the evening just cruising along the shoreline, snuggling in the sand, and letting the new parents soak in this wild, beautiful phase of life. We promise, family photos do not have to feel like a chore! For the most part, we are just hanging out, laughing, and letting you be exactly who you are.
